Mabo through the eyes of the media (part IV) :

"This essay now reviews the political and social controversy that surrounded the pastoral lease issue before, during, and after the High Court's Wik decision. Adopting a similar approach to that used throughout the Through the Eyes of the Media series (Parts I-III), the 'lens' of the print media is used as a reference point to chronicle the controversy...We begin in Part I with a review of those developments following the Mabo (No 2) decision through enactment of the Commonwealth's Native Title Act (NTA) leading up to the decisions of the Federal Courts and the High Court related to pastoral leases. Part II provides a brief review of those cases, culminating with the High Court's decision in Wik. Part III reviews the events following the Court's decision up to the introduction of the Commonwealth Government's blue print for amending the NTA, the '10 point Plan' in late 1997." -- Provided by introduction
