This document is a draft resolution issued
by the United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) at its 37th Session. It condemns
the trafficking of persons, especially
women and children, which continues to be
a serious human rights concern. It urges
member states to adopt the United Nations'
Global Plan of Action to Combat
Trafficking in Persons and calls on the
United Nations to increase UNESCO's
participation in implementing the Global
Plan of Action. The draft resolution
highlights UNESCO's role in combating
trafficking of persons by establishing
prevention programs and human rights
education. It calls on member states to
ratify the United Nations Convention
against Transnational Organized Crime and
the Palermo Protocol and adopt rights
protecting national legislation. This
document also gives a brief history of
UNESCO's role in global efforts to combat
trafficking in persons.
