"Many Roads to Justice for Women: A Foreword to the Symposium Issue of the Berkeley Journal of International Law"

This article is the foreword to a special edition of the Berkeley Journal of International Law publishing the proceedings of the 2002 Stefan A. Riesenfel Symposium on Crimes Against Women Under International Law. The author prefaces her comments with an account of her own experience in helping a Salvadorian refugee bring a suit against certain branches of the government of El Salvador for sexual crimes committed against her by members of that country's national guard.

Women's Substantive Inequality and the Protection of Social and Economic Rights under the Canadian Human Rights Act

This report raises the issue of whether Canada's system of human rights protection rests too exclusively on civil and political rights. The particular focus in this article is on protecting social and economic rights under the Canadian Human Rights Act. The authors propose including economic and social rights in the Canadian Human Rights Act and argue that this is essential in order for women to hold governments accountable for their lack of access to these rights.
