Granting Refuge from Islam: The Canadian Refugee Determination Process and the Casualties of Islamic Policies

This article explores refugee claims which have been accepted in Canada on a ground related to Islamic law and culture. The article includes an examination of gender discrimination under Islamic law and the impact of this discrimination upon the individual's refugee claim. The author specifically focuses upon the extent to which the Immigration and Refugee Board uses international human rights law as a standard by which to measure these particular claims of persecution under Islamic law.
