The Rights Framework in Reproductive Health Advocacy-A Reappraisal

The beginning of this article defines what is currently meant by "reproductive rights" and describes how the concept of reproductive rights developed in international law. The author notes that the existence of laws ensuring reproductive freedom and choice is no guarantee that reproductive health will be attained as there exist institutional, legal, and social barriers to the enjoyment of reproductive freedom and choice.

The Impact of Structural Adjustment on Women: A Governance and Human Rights Agenda

It is now well-established that structural adjustment and stabilization policies (SAPs) undertaken in developing countries to receive condition-based loans from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have exacerbated conditions of poverty and deprivation for large sections of the population. This article examines the disparate impact of SAPs on women and the resulting unacceptable feminization of poverty in many countries with economies in transition.

Gender, HIV and Human Rights: A Training Manual

This training manual is divided into 4 training modules along with an introduction and appendix. In the first module, the authors outline basic facts and statistics on the HIV/AIDS epidemic and introduce the gender dimensions and human rights aspects. Module 2 is a detailed programme for a one-day workshop on gender concerns in HIV/AIDS and development. The gender disparities in HIV infection and reasons for female vulnerability to HIV/AIDS are discussed. Module 3 is a detailed programme for a two-day workshop on the human rights approach to HIV/AIDS.
