This article discusses girls' intersectional marginalization in international human rights law. The author argues that fragmenting girls' identity into the categories of "women" and "children" results in a denial of their rights through intersectional discrimination. This article attempts to determine whether the sterilization of intellectually impaired girls is acceptable under children's rights theory. International legal documents and the writings of philosophers are examined to determine the scope of children's rights. The authors of this article then propose a "dynamic developmental model" of children's rights, which acknowledges children's dependence on their parents and the state, yet recognizes that children evolve into autonomous adults.

This article first highlights the principal challenges which adolescents may face in obtaining information on sexual and reproductive matters and in gaining access to contraceptive methods and services. The author then attempts to clearly identify which human rights are relevant in the prevention of unwanted pregnancy among adolescents, with particular attention to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
