In this report, the UN Human Rights Committee
(the Committee) makes observations noting a
continued prevalence of violence against
women and a lack of shelters available to
women experiencing violence in the Russian
Federation. The Committee expresses concern
with regard to allegations of the "honour
killings" of eight women in Chechnya. It
recommends that the Russian Federation
promptly investigate and prosecute complaints
relating to violence against women, allocate
sufficient funding to victim assistance and
support, and institute mandatory training for
police to sensitize them to crimes involving
violence against women.
