The First CEDAW [Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
Against Women] Impact Study was designed by the International Advisory Committee
as a pilot study in ten countries that are member States of the United Nations, to gather
qualitative and quantitative data from the "grassroots" in order to develop better
measurements of the implementation of human rights guarantees from the perspective
of women's rights activists. The 232 page study was published by the Centre for
Feminist Research and the International Women's Rights Project, York University,
Toronto, Canada. It includes an introduction by Andrew Byrnes and Jane Connors as
well as reports from: Canada, Germany, Japan, Nepal, Netherlands, Panama, South
Africa, South Korea, Turkey and Ukraine.
