Annotation:
This guidebook discusses women's human
rights and gender equality in issues of
peace and security. Specifically, it looks
at the interaction between the obligations
established by CEDAW General
Recommendation No. 30 and the UN Security
Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and
Security. It aims to increase knowledge
of both frameworks and to explore the ways
in which they can be implemented to
reinforce each other. The background,
significance, and content of CEDAW General
Recommendation No. 30 and of the UN
Security Council Resolutions on Women,
Peace and Security are discussed. Ways in
which they might be jointly implemented
are also outlined. An overview of the
reporting and monitoring mechanisms of
both frameworks is provided, and it is put
forth that reference to global indicators
established by Resolution 1889 of the UN
Security Council could allow for the
mutual monitoring of both frameworks.
