Annotation:
This report highlights the challenges in
accountability regarding maternal health
care issues in South Africa. It also
discusses the broader relationship between
maternal health care and international
human rights. The article lists a number
of international treaties that South
Africa has signed and ratified, all of
which state that maternal rights are
guaranteed rights. The article argues that
through its lack of accountability in
maternal health care violations, South
Africa is in violation of multiple
international treaties. The article
concludes by making a number of
recommendations to the South African Human
Rights Commission, Parliament, its
international partners, and various
departments of health.
