The African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is a regional organization set up in 1988 to strengthen the role and contribution of African NGOs focusing on women's development, equality and other human rights. It runs three programs in the areas of advocacy, training and communication. Current projects under its Advocacy Programme include monitoring the implementation of the Dakar and Beijing Platforms for Action at the UN Commission on the Status of Women, improving African women's participation in the African Union, strengthening women's economic rights by advocating macroeconomic policies and development strategies that empower women, and partnering with the Men to Men Project to reduce gender-based violence in Africa. FEMNET's website also provides access to numerous publications. [Descriptors: Applying Human Rights Law - Domestic, International - Africa]
