Aboriginal Canada revisited /

"Aboriginal Canada Revisited examines the current political and cultural position of Canada's Aboriginal peoples in a series of interdisciplinary essays. The contributors to this volume explore Aboriginal politics and representation, health, education and other social issues, and look at how contemporary Aboriginals find voice in literature, art, print media, and film. While Acknowledging the vibrancy and diversity of Aboriginal cultural expression and the developing dialogue between Aboriginal cultural expression and the developing dialogue between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people this book also draws attention to areas where the colonial legacy is still taking its toll and to the systemic problems that continue to marginalize Aboriginal people within Canadian Society" - provided by publisher

"Appeared in Choice on 2009-08-01:
This collection of essays contains the proceedings of the third interdisciplinary graduate studies symposium on the theme "Aboriginal Peoples in Canada in the 21st Century," held in 2005 at the University of Greifswald in Germany. From the standpoint of a North American student of Native studies, this collection is somewhat unusual. Canadians and Americans are not generally aware that the North American Indian is the subject of such interest in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. The University of Ottawa Press is therefore to be credited for publishing this unique collection, which offers North American readers a glimpse of contemporary European thought (particularly German) regarding the study of North American First Nations cultures. Although the range of topics is broad, ranging from health, social issues, and politics to education, literature, and film, all the essays try to address the contemporary reality of North American aboriginal peoples from an interdisciplinary standpoint. Because many of the young scholars are from outside North America, this volume offers a fresh perspective on perceptions of aboriginal Canada. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower-division undergraduates and above. B. F. R. Edwards Mount Allison University"
