Noting the lack of research on trafficking in Africa, this study provides an overview of issues related to trafficking on the continent as well as an assessment of good practices in migration management. Beginning with a discussion of the UN trafficking definition, the study then examines the trafficking patterns and factors that encourage and perpetuate this activity. It explores trafficking patterns within and from Africa and looks at legal frameworks and policy responses by governments and other actors in civil society that address trafficking. It concludes by highlighting the importance of using a human rights framework and facilitating cooperation and coordination among key stakeholders in order to effectively address trafficking.
