United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women (UN DAW)

This website was created for the Beijing +10 reveiew at the 19th session of the United Nations (UN) Commission on the Status of Women, February 28 to March 11 2005. The site has official documents, a list of non-governmental organization (NGO) participants, press releases, and statements by various UN agencies.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the main United Nations (UN) policy-making body to promote women's rights in political, economic, civil, social and economic fields. The object of the Commission is to promote implementation of the principle that men and women shall have equal rights.

This site was established for the 'Beijing Plus Five' Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly (GA), 5-9 June 2000. At this Special Session, the GA assessed the progress achieved in the implementation of the Nairobi Forward Looking Strategies and the Beijing Platform for Action (PFA), and it considered further initiatives. The site contains information on the preparatory committee, on governmental and non-governmental participants, a press kit and background information.
