Born with a tooth /

"The thirteen stories in Born With A Tooth are diverse in subject matter, ranging from a butterfly-costumed boy fascinated by the world of professional wrestling, to a young woman who falls in love with a wolf, to the lead singer of an all-girl Native punk band. What they have in common is Boyden's writing, a style infused with grace and power. The stories in this collection travel in the four directions of the compass: "East" brings labour, and the stories of three women who work and share the pain of raising children; "South" conjures ruin, stories of self-destruction; "West" brings forth running, stories of water and children who leave; "North" is home. Boyden's Northern Ontario reserves are places of poverty, violence, humor, and redemption; his Cree and Ojibwa people are not fragile. They've been here ten thousand years. They survive." - Provided by Publisher
