The African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is a regional organization set up in 1988 to strengthen the role and contribution of African NGOs focusing on women's development, equality and other human rights. It runs three programs in the areas of advocacy, training and communication. Current projects under its Advocacy Programme include monitoring the implementation of the Dakar and Beijing Platforms for Action at the UN Commission on the Status of Women, improving African women's participation in the African Union, strengthening women's economic rights by advocating macroeconomic policies and development strategies that empower women, and partnering with the Men to Men Project to reduce gender-based violence in Africa. The site of the Institute for Human Rights at the Abo Akademi University, Finland, provides a link to the FINDOC database - click on "Publications and databases" from the site's home page to access. The database includes materials dating back as far as 1966, including monographs, articles, and seminar reports concerning human rights. The database consists of about 33,000 references relating to public international law and human rights in general, the UN system, European, African and Inter-American human rights systems, and reports from various human rights NGOs. [Although the site does not focus exclusively on women's international human rights, it is included here because it is fully searchable and contains an extensive collection of materials related to international human rights law.]

This page on the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights website provides basic information on submitting communications or complaints to the various United Nations bodies that investigate or issue views on alleged human rights violations. In chart form, the necessary addresses and guidelines for submission are presented along with links to information pages on some of the possible procedures. Communications can be considered even when not submitted in the suggested format However, following the guidelines and models provided here can be very helpful to both the individual submitting a communication and the Committee considering it.
